Issues & Advocacy

URGENT MESSAGE and CALL TO ACTION!!!

There have been some developments in the past week that could completely jeopardize the arrival of the Baltimore Orioles in Sarasota County for Spring Training this season.

WE NEED YOUR HELP in communicating with the City Commissioners that they should approve the bond financing option in Resolution 10R-2135, also supported by the Sarasota County Commission.

This will provide a real, solid and practical solution to these last minute issues.
We urge the City to accept this solution at its Monday, November 2 meeting. Once they reconvene at 6:00 pm, this is the last agenda item.

Please attend this meeting (6:00 pm) to support adoption of Resolution 10R-2135. The solution, submitted by the City Manager as 10R-2135, will meet the terms of the interlocal agreement and move the project forward.
The commission has been presented two financing options, PLEASE BE SPECIFIC IN URGING ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION 10R-2135.

If you cannot attend Monday’s meeting, please communicate with the City Commission. In this economy, we cannot lose the important asset of Spring Training and our partnership with the Baltimore Orioles.
You can reach the City Commissioners by email as follows:

Mayor Richard Clapp
Vice Mayor Kelly Kirschner
Commissioner Fredd Atkins
Commissioner Suzanne Atwell
Commissioner Terry Turner

Thank you for your help with this important community issue.

Business Survey

The Florida Chamber is now conducting the annual survey for Florida’s 2010 Business Agenda, which will shape the priority issues for next year’s legislative session. Each year the Florida Chamber of Commerce presents the entire Legislature and Executive Branch with a clear blueprint of how to move Florida’s economy in the right direction.
The Florida Business Agenda is a member driven, consensus agenda. Our chamber has the opportunity to give us its feedback by sending out the survey to our members.

Please complete the survey at your earliest convenience.

Results will be available by September 2009.
